How do we get to your studio?

We have many clients travelling from all over the northwest just to see us. Show Your Bump Scanning studio is situated on the outskirts of Wigan town centre within walking distance of the Thomas Linacre centre. We are local to town so don’t worry, there is public transport within reasonable distance should you need it (just off the 635 bus route from the town centre). For those driving there is ample parking around the premises that is free of charge.

How to be prepared for your scan

When preparing for your scan you need to ensure you drink plenty of fluids so that your bladder is full, the more water you drink the better. We know sometimes little ones can be shy so being active on the day will help get baby moving in order for us to obtain the best images possible. 

Do I need my Hospital pregnancy notes?

Care is what we do best. We ask that you attend with your pregnancy notes for the sonographers purpose only. This enables us to collate any data or information we require and have the details of your local hospital should we need to contact them on your behalf.

What is the difference in 3D/4D & HD LIVE?

A 3D scan is a still three-dimensional image of your baby developing in the womb, whilst a 4D scan is a 3D image in full motion. An HD Live preview is in high definition which allows you to see your baby more clearly.

Do you charge extra for multiple pregnancies?

We do not charge extra for this, however, if you would like a 30 minute appointment we can at your request accommodate this for a small supplement fee for extra scanning time.

What if the sonographer detects something unusual during the scan?

Firstly, we want to reassure you our Sonographers are highly qualified and experienced to deal with this situation. Should we detect an unexpected problem during the scan the sonographer will provide a detailed report and we will explain this to you. At your request we will pass this information to your local hospital, GP or pregnancy unit.

Is ultrasound safe for you and baby?

Ultrasound baby scanning cannot harm your baby.

Our scanning machines are the GE Voluson which are used throughout many hospitals

Ultrasound technology has been researched in hundreds of clinical studies over the past 30 years and it has not been shown to cause any harm to either mother or baby. With routine scanning in all 3D,4D and HD Live preview it has been proven that scanning you and your baby is perfectly safe, exactly the same type and intensity of ultrasound is used as with your hospital 2D scanning. The 3D and 4D ultrasound both utilise sound waves to look inside the body. A probe is placed on the body and emits sound waves that go into the body and listens for the return echo therefore generating an image.

What if baby is hiding and we cannot see?

Not a problem, we will keep trying if your baby is hiding. We will ask you to eat something sweet if you are able to do so and try to be active in order to get your baby moving.

In the unlikely event that your baby’s face or gender cannot be determined on the day we will offer you another scan free of charge on a different day with us.

If we spot anything unusual... 

During a bonding scan we don’t check for fetal abnormalities, if we do spot anything unusual we will explain this to you and at your request can pass this information to your GP or Maternity unit.

What is the best time to have a 4D scan? 

A 4D scan can be done at anytime in your pregnancy. For the best results we advise having your scan done between 24 and 33 weeks. Feel free to have a look at some of the photos on our site to see the results. The results are amazing, how much you can see e.g. feet, hands, nose and ears.

What are the differences between a 3D, 4D, and HD Live scan?

A 3D scan is a still three-dimensional image of your baby developing in the womb, whilst a 4D scan is a 3D image in full motion and a 4D HD Live scan is in high definition which allows you to see your baby more cleary. This motion differentiates between a 3D and a 4D and 4D HD Live scan. Your scan will consist of both 3D and 4D, you will be able to purchase the 3D images on a USB and the 4D on a DVD for you to treasure.

Baby changing facilities and toilets... 

Don’t panic we have a baby changing unit for your little ones to be freshened up, and don’t worry if you have left baby’s bag in the car or have run out, we have nappies and wipes for your use. There are also toilet facilities for you to use.

Be prepared for your scan...

When preparing for your scan you need to make sure you drink plenty of water so that your bladder is full, the more water you drink the better.

Make sure you are active on the day so that you get baby moving, if you have been driving, make sure you walk around a little before your scan to get baby moving around.

2D, 3D/4D HD - What is the difference?

2D is used to produce 2 dimensional images of what is happening inside mum and baby. 4D scan is a moving 3D image for example live video allows you to see what baby is doing at that present time. Still images provided are 3D and HD that is a high definition still photo of baby. 

Who can I take to my scan?

You can bring along 5 guests including yourself and any dependent children to enjoy your scan.

Will we be able to see baby clearly?

We always strive to obtain the best images possible however Image quality may be affected by certain factors:

• If you have a high Body Mass Index (BMI)
• The position that baby is in at the time of the scan.
• Baby’s face may be touching the placenta especially if anterior.

A Sugary drink 15 minutes prior to your scan appointment can encourage baby to move during your scan.
